Our Approach to Water

Sensory Regulation

We design our pools to minimize auditory and visual stimuli, creating a calm environment that supports focus and reduces anxiety.

PersonaliSed Profiles

Every child has a unique learning profile. We adapt our techniques to match their cognitive style, ensuring a tailored educational experience.

Founded in 2026, The Water Affect was established with a singular mission: to create a sanctuary where neurodivergent children can find their rhythm.

We believe that swimming is more than a physical skill – it's a journey of self-discovery and inner peace. Our methods are built on a foundation of sensory regulation and personalised learning profiles, ensuring every stroke is a step toward confidence.

Mindful Flow

Swimming is a natural form of mindfulness. We guide children through the meditative act of breathing and movement.

  • TESTIMONIALS

We’ve been so grateful to have KL as our two kids’ swimming teacher over the past 18 months. She has always adapted her approach to suit each, and has helped them both grow in confidence and ability in the water.

What we’ve appreciated most is her patience and the way she teaches different parts of water safety and stroke technique. She has a calm, positive way of teaching that makes the kids feel safe to try new skills, even when they’re nervous. They genuinely look forward to their lessons each week.

The spike in progress in both of our children has been wonderful to see. Their swimming skills, confidence in the water, and overall enjoyment have all improved so much.

We couldn’t recommend KL highly enough to any family looking for a knowledgeable, caring, and dedicated swimming teacher.

  • TESTIMONIALS

Kristy has taught both of our girls and has been nothing short of incredible. We could not recommend her more highly!

From day one, she was patient, calm, encouraging, and genuinely invested in helping them build confidence and feel safe in the water.
What truly makes Kristy so special is her ability to connect with every child as an individual. She has such a gentle, intuitive approach, always knowing when to encourage, when to slow things down, and how to make each lesson a positive experience. Both of our daughters absolutely thrived under her guidance.

She consistently went above and beyond, not just teaching swimming but building trust, confidence, and a genuine love of being in the water. She celebrated every milestone, no matter how small, and always made our girls feel capable, supported, and proud of themselves.

We are so excited to see her new business flourish and know she will make a lasting difference to so many children and families.

  • TESTIMONIALS

We tried a number swim centres and instructors for our two neurodiverse kiddos before finding the right fit with The Water Affect.

Kristie-Lee creates sessions that are tailored to the kids’ individual interests and abilities, making swimming fun while building their confidence and skills.

She’s kind, patient and non-judgemental and provides a rare, sensory aware environment. We couldn’t be happier.

  • TESTIMONIALS

I could not recommend Kristie-Lee enough!

Logan was hysterical in normal group lessons and we started one on one lessons with Kristie-Lee , her caring and nurturing nature was exactly what Logan needed. Over the coming months Logan progressed more than we could have imagined and he became so comfortable being in the water with Kristie Lee and independently.

Kristie-Lee was appreciative of Logan sensitivity on some days and respected his feelings and never pushed him if she didn’t feel it was appropriate.
Swimming to us is such an important skill and Kristie Lee had been the most incredible swim teacher for Logan.

  • TESTIMONIALS

As a support worker for a four-year-old non-verbal autistic child, I have had the privilege of observing the incredible work KL has done over the past 12 months. Her impact extends far beyond teaching swimming skills and has made a meaningful difference to both the child and those supporting him.

She approaches every lesson with empathy, kindness, patience, and genuine understanding. Her ability to build trust and create a safe, supportive environment has allowed him to feel comfortable and engaged in the water, which is no small achievement.

What truly sets her apart is the depth of knowledge and understanding she brings to her role. She demonstrates a remarkable awareness of behaviour, communication differences, and speech and language challenges, allowing her to adapt her teaching style to meet the individual needs of the child. This understanding has been invaluable and has contributed significantly to his progress and confidence.

Her skills extend well beyond swimming instruction. She is professional, compassionate, and highly intuitive, with an exceptional ability to connect with children who require additional support. It has been a privilege to witness her dedication and the positive impact she has had over the past year, and I would highly recommend her to any family seeking a swimming teacher who offers not only outstanding instruction but also genuine understanding, empathy, and support.
